Safety on the Water: Our Mission - Our Impact
Since it's inception in 1952, seventy three years ago, the mission of our the Whitefish Chain Yacht Club has remained the same: promoting Safety On The Water.
How are we doing?
The original purpose of the founders was to put out some markers for the rock pile on the bar between Foley"s point and O'Brians point. .
We now own, install and maintain the system of over 115 navigation, safety and hazard buoys on the Chain. We have added 81 solar powered lights to those buoys to improve night time boating safety.
Over the years we have added boating and water safety classes to the list of programs we offer in support of our mission. All classes are offered to members and non-members alike and at NO cost to participants.
In the past 6 years alone these classes classes we have:
- Enabled 289 youth to receive their Minnesota Youth Boat Operators Permits. (plus provided each with a personal flotation device aka life jacket).
- Helped 137 participants enhance their boating skills through our Women At The Helm on the water classes.
- Introduced 10 newish boaters to the helm in our new Guys at the Helm class.
- Conducted 625 swimmer sessions of our Swimming / Water Safety Classes.
More information, 2025 class dates and online registration for Swimming/Water Safety, Youth Operator, Women At The Helm and Guys At The Helm classes is available on our Club Programs Page.
