WCYC TO OFFER FREE SWIMMING LESSONS
In 2010 the WCYC’s will again offer swimming classes no charge
Crosslake MN - June 9, 2009 - The Whitefish Chain Yacht Club (WCYC) is offering free swimming classes to residents and vacationing families this summer. This is the first time in its 57-year history that the WCYC is offering its swimming lessons free of charge. Classes will take place each morning at the Crosslake Corps. of Engineers campground July 6th through July 24th.
“Given the current economic climate, it’s simply the right thing to do,” said Bob Nelson, Commodore of the WCYC. “Water safety on the Whitefish Chain has always been the primary mission of the club, and we don’t want financial hardship to get in anyone’s way. Everyone who wants to learn to swim should have the opportunity, and through member dues and funds raised by our events, this year we’re delighted to be able to offer these classes at no charge.”
The WCYC has sponsored accredited swimming classes since 1967 and has taught swimming to more than 4,000 students. Lessons are offered each July and are open to children 5 years and older. Adult lessons are also available, and classes can be customized to fit family vacation schedules.
For further information and to register, contact WCYC Swimming Director Vickey Leonard at (218) 543-4380. For more information on the WCYC, go to www.wcyc.info.
The WCYC is a member organization dedicated to boating and water safety for both residents and visitors to the Whitefish Chain of Lakes in Minnesota’s Brainerd Lakes area. In addition to swimming lessons, its ongoing activities include annual installation and maintenance of the chain’s navigational buoy system as well as numerous social and educational events throughout the season.
